Communication empowers.
Karen Morath, managing director, M Power
The ‘quick six’ for March are
1. Heard it on the grapevine
2. A quote we like
3. Introducing M Power Speaker Ben Price
4. Gratuitous plug for M Power
5. Asking the big question
6. This month's book review
1. Heard it on the grapevine
Forty
six per cent of employees say they first hear about major changes at
work through the grapevine, while only 17 per cent of employees
actually hear about changes this way.*
Source – Entrepreneur Magazine, January 2004
Where a communication vacancy exists, people will fill the void with what they’ve heard or deduced. Staff need to be told of changes or organisational news BEFORE other stakeholders. Communication empowers.
2. A quote we like
"You get into a fix; you get yourself out of it. It’s that simple. There is no way to run the sausage machine backward and get pigs out of the other end."
Source – Norman R Augustine
3. Introducing M Power Speaker Ben Price
Ben Price is Australia's best impersonator, with over 10 years of performing over 50 national and international personalities.
Apart from regular appearances on Melbourne radio and national
television programmes, (you can hear him as Bracksy on Gold FM each
morning), Ben has also performed to sellout crowds at Melbourne Comedy
Festival events for the past several years.
With impersonations in voice, full costume and make-up, Ben
has performed tailor made material in some of the worlds premier comedy
venues to corporate audiences around the globe.
Appearing as anyone from Arnold Schwarzenegger to Steve
Bracks, from John Howard to Dr Evil, or a combination, Ben has the
personality for your event!

5. Asking the big question
Former AFL supercoach Tom Hafey, surely
Australia’s fittest and most driven ‘senior’ citizen, speaking at the
March Moonee Valley City Council business breakfast, said the key to
fulfilling your potential is asking yourself everyday ‘Have I done
enough today?’
6. This month's book review
A magazine this time. Harvard Business Review or www.hbr.org
Somehow this magazine is consistently excellent. It
offers progressive articles based on research and experience, unlike
the ‘rants’ masquerading as journalism in too many other business
publications. Its link to one of the world’s most
prestigious universities is palpable but the articles are fresh,
readable and thought provoking.
I get a sense of being privy to a global
perspective but with every opportunity to apply what I am reading to
the consulting we do everyday.
