Communication empowers.

Karen Morath, managing director, M Power

The ‘quick six’ for April are

1. Get a life
2. A quote we like
3. m-news news
4. Gratuitous plug
5. The power of public relations
6. This month's book review

1. Get a life

Keeping morale high is like being on a diet: It requires consistent effort and is never over. But it can't consume you. Just as we're often exhorted to work more hours, to the exclusion of all other interests and commitments, in reality it's those very interests and commitments that keep everyone fresh, alert, and aware. New ideas, stimuli, and motivation come from all around you. It's the larger life, after all, that gives purpose to the cilmb.

From 'The Morale of the Story' by Margaret Heffernan, Fast Company March 2005

 2. A quote we like

When the world around you changes, maintaining your equilibrium is a threat to your future existence."

3. m-news news

Sure we publish at the right price, but well into our fourth year of issuing m-news each month, we are thrilled that new readers continue to subscribe.

We also enjoy receiving feedback from our readers and encourage you to continue to send us your comments on what we have to say.

This month we invite you to ponder who (an individual or an organisation) could use some public relations advice right now and send us your suggestions - don't all nominate Rodney Adler and Prince Charles!

4. Gratuitous plug

Need a speaker?  A master of ceremonies?  An entertainer? Quiz master? Singer? Comedian?

Contact M Power Speakers when you are planning your next conference, training day, seminar or breakfast.  Our speakers have recently MCd a book launch, delivered a key note address to a business audience and hosted a lunch to launch a new service initiative.  We can work with you to identify how a professional speaker can contribute to the success of your event and select and brief the right speaker to ensure that success.

5. The power of public relations

The best selling book 'French women don't get fat' by CEO of champagne giant Veuve Clicquot, Mireille Guiliano, is an outstanding example of public relations.

The company doesn't advertise - it doesn't need to.

The book condones drinking champagne as part of a balanced lifestyle and is sold at book stores with a cover sticker offering the chance to win a free case of Veuve Clicquot.

It has been sold around the world - to women, consumers directly in the target market -  and generated publicity for the champagne brand.

Advertising has its place but it can't buy exposure and credibility like that.

6. This month's book review

This issue we are reviewing a website instead of a book.

The Public Relations Institute of Australia has upgraded its website making it now worth visiting at www.pria.com.au

It includes information about the roles and definitons of public relations, news articles about the industry, how to engage a consultancy and listings of registered consultancies in each state and their specialties.

We have been a Registered Consultancy Group member for a couple of years so you can look us up, but why not just call us directly on (03) 9510 2592.  We would love to assist you with your public relations needs.
