The fast four for January are

In the driver's seat for social change
I spoke at an IT conference last year about the opportunity social media presents for the ICT industry (isn't it nifty that they have put the C for communication in there). Social media - blogs, social-networking sites, SMS and related technology - has already and irreversibly changed the way we communicate, market and build brands. Public relations without social media might be missing the biggest, cheapest, most direct opportunity. But just as when corporate websites first started and there was an organisational tussle between IT (the communications - plural - department) and PR (the communication - singular - department) over the ownership of the organisation's website, the same is happening over who should control the use of social media. Who should be the drivers? The people who understand the technology or the people who understand how the technology can be used to
communicate?

A quote we like
“Effective public relations practitioners remind managers that their communication role is to transmit not only information but emotions and intuition.”
Source - Public Relations: The Profession and the Practice by Dan Lattimore.

Planning effective communication
We have included a link to the M Power Communication Calendar, a simple spreadsheet that is a useful tool for doing a desktop plan for your department or organisation’s public relations plan for 2008.
