The ‘fast four’ for February are
1. The Washington Post annual Neologism Contest
2. A quote we like
3. Never assume - you know the saying...
4. Buzzwords

1. The Washington Post annual Neologism Contest For those of you, like me, who love words you’ll enjoy The Washington Post’s annual Neologism Contest, click here
to see the winners. I love ‘frisbeetarianism’ and the new way of thinking about abdicating. 2. A quote we like “Nothing is more dangerous than an idea when it's the only one you have.” Source - Harry Hoover
3. Never assume - you know the saying...This is a gentle reminder about the perils of email communication. Them - Let's meet at five for a drink. Me - How about two? See you then.
Are we due to meet at five or two? According to them, at two. According to me, stupidly and in my defence I would like to cite my degrees in journalism and communication (yes, that's two relevant degrees), at five but for two drinks... You can imagine how this worked out. Email does not pick up nuance, humour such as it was or understand that I would always be referring to two drinks not one.
4. Buzzwords
‘Rocketing’ is a new marketing term from the USthat refers to how people buy things that are out of their financial league. They make a decision to purchase something then scrimp on things in every other product category. Who needs to eat when you can have a painting or in-house cinema? Effective public relations practitioners remind managers that their communication role is to transmit not only information but emotions and intuition.

Gratuitous plug Drum roll please. M Power will launch two new concepts later this month.
The first, an online subscription based bimonthly magazine about business empowerment, will be called ‘The Business M Powerer’ (however did we think of it?) Readers of this newsletter will get a free copy of the first issue when it is published later this month. At the same time, we will announce details of a scheme that will make real-time expert public relations advice easily accessible and great value for money. Last month M Power -
- maintained the owner's commitment to January being the month of rest, reflection and recreation, but also -
- committed to various new projects - books, talks and teaching
- wrote and published a range of newsletters and magazines
- achieved some profile-building publicity for a new client
- developed a communication calendar for a retail brand.
How could we work to empower you or your organisation?
