Hi there
How was your February? Did you make time for ‘palm trees and margaritas’? Or plan to enjoy ‘palm trees and margaritas’?
‘Palm trees and margaritas’ is about living big and making plans. For some, work/life balance. None of us knows how our life will unfold so as much as we are in control, empowered living means making sure there is time in our lives for palm trees and margaritas*, however we define them.
The plan for this newsletter is to give you five minutes of reflection time on the last Friday of each month. And so it is.
I love to hear (and publish) your stories of how you are living your life. Please get in touch and share yours.

TIPS
1. "Slow down and enjoy life. It's not only the scenery you miss by going too fast - you also miss the sense of where you are going and why." Eddie Cantor, US comedian and singer (1892 - 1964)
2. "The purpose of life is a life of purpose." Robert Byrne
3. Cook yourself something fabulous to eat. Why wait until you have guests? You're worth it.
4. Buy yourself a copy of Palm Trees and Margaritas - Finding Your Oasis in a Busy World. Great for the gift cupboard at home. Click here to buy it.
STORIES
1. The Bucket List
Wow, the Palm Trees and Margaritas book has only been out for a couple of months and already it’s been made into a movie!
The Bucket List could so easily be based on Palm Trees and Margaritas. It is about the same way of looking at life. What things do you want to make sure you’ve done before you kick the bucket? Live big, make plans. And don’t make them all long term – we don’t know how long we’ve got.
Morgan Freeman and Jack Nicholson are great in this movie. I loved it. Definitely should be on the ‘to enjoy’ list. If you see it, be warned that you will feel compelled to write a bucket list of your own.
2. The superwoman
I had lunch with a couple of incredible women last week. Both smart, compassionate and in touch with who they are. Do you know the feeling of being in awe of some people’s grip on life?
One of the women, let’s call her the superwoman, was raising three children alone, worked full time and still made plans to do meaningful things for herself and her children.
She mentioned one night a few weeks ago when she was out at a concert with friends. Someone said they thought she had done well to be out on the same night as parent-teacher interviews. Indeed. But since getting home from work, she had taken two children to sport and picked them up, cooked dinner for the four of them, been to parent-teacher interviews and then gone to the concert.
That’s what I call making time for ‘palm trees and margaritas’ in your life. Hers was a concert she was keen to enjoy. Sometimes it’s easier to not do something but finding the energy to make the effort can be the reward in itself.
The superwoman loved the concert and was energised by the experience of having some ‘me time’.
REFLECTIONS
1. Do we get to a point where we have our life’s friends and don’t need to or want to make the time and effort to make more?
2. If utilities really are ‘recording this call for training purposes’, why has the customer service they deliver not improved?
3. Is it OK sometimes to just say ‘enough’ and take some time off?
