3. PR in Iraq

The Pentagon is investigating allegations that the US military paid Iraqi newspapers to bolster the image of American activities in Iraq. The world's largest organisation of public relations professionals, the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA), was quick to applaud the inquiry and condemn any lack of transparency in communication with the media that hides the origin of the communication, according to Judith Phair, CEO of the PRSA.

It denounced - and always has - all 'pay for placement' editorial anywhere.

Ms Phair said the need for credible information about the advantages of a free society in a fledgling democracy like Iraq is obvious.  It is a perfect venue for effective, ethical public relations.  The UScan best achieve its communication goals by providing credible, factualinformation to news media, communicating consistently to a wide array of audiences with disparate interests and beliefs through appropriate media and channels and dealing openly and honestly with crises and controversy.

She said there are no shortcuts in those endeavours.  Open, two-way communication remains paramount - even in the face of frustration and failure.

4. This month’s book review

Property Millionaire - The guidebook to having great Australian dreams by Gary Seeto, Pennon Publishing2006 $24.95

As we have broadened the subject matter of our newsletter to 'all things empowering', we can bring you a greater selection of reviews of books, magazines and websites.

There surely is nothing more empowering than financial independence and Gary Seeto's book is like a property investing roadmap to never having to work for money again.

It is well written and easy to read even for wannabe investors and its commentary is balanced.  Other authors on this subject appear to take a position on the positive versus negative gearing fence and argue like they are first speaker for the affirmative team.

Gary's style is gentler and very informative and he has a delightful personal perspective on what rich really is.
