The ‘quick six’ for August are

1. Invest in your branding
2. A quote we like
3. Organisation insight
4. Introducing M Power speakers The High Flyers
5. Shameless self promotion
6. This month's book review

1. Invest in your branding

If you are not already convinced of the need to invest in branding and of conveying a consistent image, have a look at the Australian Olympic team.  Their 10 shades of green six of yellow and the red, white and blue of the flag makes me wonder which country they are representing.

A good brand image is strong, consistent and instantly recognisable.

 2. A quote we like

“The standard communication model is an antique.  Transform your brand communication from a monologue to a dialogue by getting feedback.”

3. Organisation insight

Total experience not one-dimensional customer service is one of the three elements of success of the $20 million retail concept store chain, Mecca Cosmetica, according to its owner Jo Horgan.

The others are great brands (for sale) and a great retail environment.

4. Introducing M Power speakers The High Flyers

Here’s something new and actually original.

What can people in organisations learn from military flying teams?  Plenty.  The High Flyers speakers have a unique motivational and team building presentation which teaches practical techniques for briefing and debriefing, continuous improvement and the six keys to individual effectiveness.  New to M Power, be among the first to benefit from a high flying presentation - contact us for details.

5. Shameless self promotion

M Power's recent sponsorship of the Melbourne University Law Revue saw us provide our promotional services to one of Melbourne's most respected amateur performances that has acted as the launching pad for many actors and comedians alike, including Rob Sitch, Cate Blanchett and Barry Humphries.

That meant we also got to go along to a suburban pub and spend our Thursday night with over 370 uni students to enjoy some very cleverly put together skits and of course the timeless two dollar pot.

Combining music, wit and good looks the cast managed to successfully prove that Melbourne University is still capable of producing outstanding lawyers, doctors and engineers who will undoubtedly abandon their profession to pursue a life on the stage.

6. This month's book review

How to get rich, by Donald J Trump.  BBC Books, London, 2004.

Get rich quick books don’t normally meet the criteria for a review in m-news, but the topicality of The Apprentice led me to loosely interpret our ‘individual effectiveness’ subject and decide this was relevant.

Realistically, I expected I would feel that I would be closer to being rich if I hadn’t spent $35 buying the book, but it earned its cover price on page one.

The Donald’s Business Rule #1 on page one, is ‘if you don’t tell people about your success, they probably won’t know about it’.

Essentially this is M Power’s philosophy of ‘communication empowers’ and evidence of the truth in one of our favourite definitions of public relations – ‘doing good things and telling people about them’.

If you enjoyed spending Monday nights with The Donald and his wannabe apprentices, then there is something in this book for you, although don’t get too excited.  For everyone else, invest your $35 on a sure thing at the races.
